Pantone, famous for its colour charts, has chosen one shade per year since 2000 and, in doing so, influences product development and initiates trends in many industries, including fashion, furniture and industrial design, packaging and graphic design. The selection process is based on an in-depth analysis of past and future trends, carefully examining the impact of a given color on the daily life of the company.
For 2021, not one, but two shades have been selected by the company. Pantone chose a combination of colors to convey “a message of happiness supported by fortitude”. Grey PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and Yellow PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating work together to support one another and express a sense of warmth and positivity. According to the company, “the combination... is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.” This is a decision that echoes the climate of uncertainty that has persisted since the start of the pandemic.

These two new two-tone models flanked by the Pantone logo join the Classic Blue pair, published in the shade of the year 2020, and Natureza, a capsule collection of five pairs – including the best-selling styles, the OCA Low and the OCA High – in colors inspired by nature in different parts of the world.
