As reported by Barnebys in July, the collection of actor Roger Moore was headed to auction, and the expectations were high. Like all actors who have portrayed James Bond, they are highly associated with that character. What's interesting about Roger Moore is that he's internationally acclaimed as a man of good taste and someone who truly had class. Thus, the interest in his personal collection, whether it's a bowtie, a lighter, or a decorative vase, was of the highest interest to people all over the world. Perhaps not surprisingly, the three lots sold for the highest sums were all watches. The auction didn't feature any screen-worn watches, which would have sold in the $500,000 range, but rather watches that were given to Moore by Omega and Swatch. Notably, both Omega and Swatch are owned by The Swatch Group, and those two brands have worked with the James Bond franchise since 1995. A couple of suits made by top-notch Saville Row designers Cyril Castle and Douglas Hayward also went under the hammer. One of which is a beautiful double-breasted mohair dinner suit that was custom-made for Roger Moore for the 1985 Bond classic A View To a Kill. Among the less notable lots were movie scripts for none-Bond movies such as Boat Trip and Flames of Destiny. Various sports equipment was sold, including tennis rackets and pairs of skis. Arguably, the most personal item in the auction was Roger Moore's passport, which he used frequently during a ten-year period. The passport shows Moore's international travel for work, charitable causes, and private life. It includes trips to New York, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Bern, Bangkok, Vancouver, Ghana, and Chile, among others. The passport sold for $14,750 (£12,160).
