Until April 23, the English auction house William George is taking bids for their online sale, Signed Royal Letters & Photographs, Historical Documents & Postal History. One of the highlights in the auction is a handwritten letter from the Princess of Wales, dated June 21, 1989.
Loyal fans of the British Royal Family know that this date marks the 7th birthday of Diana's son Prince William, on the occasion of which Diana thought of a very special surprise: a motorcycle demonstration by the Special Gescort Group of the Metropolitan Police.
The surprise was so well received that the Princess of Wales took the opportunity to write a personal thank-you letter to George Plumb, the responsible sergeant, that same evening.

“Dear Sgt Plumb, It was so very kind of you and your team to have come here today on William’s birthday – I cannot begin to tell you what pleasure the display gave to all those little people & their mothers!
I know how particularly busy you all are at the moment, so it meant even more to us that you and the motorbike boys were able to take part in the birthday celebrations!
This comes with our warmest possible thanks.
Yours sincerely,
Diana, William, Harry”
As a special highlight, the letter handwritten by Princess Diana not only bears her signature, but also that of the birthday boy and his then almost five-year-old Prince Harry, who clearly enjoyed the show thoroughly.

Diana loved to surprise her two sons. A year after this memorable birthday, she noticed Williams' growing interest in supermodels like Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington, whose posters adorned the walls of his room. But above all, the prince seemed to be most taken with Cindy Crawford. Princess Diana used her contacts to call the Crawford office in person, whose assistant initially thought the call was a joke.

A very nervous Cindy Crawford then went to Kensington Palace during a stay in London, where she met an equally nervous Prince William and a cheerful Princess Diana, with whom she said talked "like a friend", the model later recalled.
Bids for the thank you letter from 1989 can be made until April 23. The estimated price for the personal memento is £12,000-16,000 ($15,000-20,000).
