“Palace Hotel – St. Moritz In Switzerland” Poster, by Emil Cardinaux, 1920
This rare poster—an original from the famed Palace Hotel—has an estimate of £8,000 - £16,000. Opened in 1896 by Caspar Badrutt, the Palace remains in the family today, prestige ever-growing. Previous guests include Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, and Charlie Chaplin; today’s clientele boasts a similar reputation. The poster itself was crafted by a member of the Bern School.
Very Rare Ski Poster, “L’Hiver En Suisse,” By Erich Hermès, 1938
Erich Hermès gained recognition as both architect and poster artist in his lifetime. Having studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he worked with public institutions throughout World War I, crafting paintings, sculptures, bas-reliefs, and stained glass décor. His craftsmanship as a poster artist became apparent after 1929: Hermès created numerous award-winning illustrations. This piece, with an estimate of £8,000 - £12,000, is no different.
Peugeot Poster, By René Vincent, 1912
This poster, with an estimate of £10,000 – £15,000, could be considered René Vincent’s most dramatic work, the exaggerated perspective emphasizing power. This is fitting, considering Peugeot was an early pioneer in motor racing and won the 1912 French Grand Prix. Vincent himself was an enthusiastic motorist: the famed Art Deco illustrator was the first French citizen to hold a driver’s license, and his house was one of the world’s first to include a garage.
“10EME Rallye Automobiles Monte-Carlo” Poster, By Robert Falcucci, 1931
At the Monte Carlo Rally of 1931, Donald M. Healey took first in an Invicta. Robert Falcucci immortalized the race in this futuristic illustration. The Auxerre-raised illustrator worked for a variety of institutions throughout his career, including Renault, Poiret, Boeing, and the French Army; his admittance to the Galeries des Beaux-Arts and Ecole Normale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs prove his talent. This poster, with an estimate of £10,000 – £15,000, does the same.
Extremely Rare “La Route Bleue” Poster, 1929
Valued between £15,000 – £20,000, this poster was created by A.M. Cassandre, a star of the poster’s Golden Age. Cassandre—the nom de course of Russo-French Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron—was a friend of Dali, de Chirico, and Balthus; his designs stand beside theirs in fame and skill. This is one to jump at.
Extremely Rare “Grand Prix Suisse 1934” Poster, By Kaspar Ernst Graf, 1934
This illustration is one of the most valuable posters of its era. Art Deco-styled, it depicts a Type 59 Bugatti and Maserati 8CM against the backdrop of the Bernese Oberland and Berne Cathedral. In 1934, Hans Stuck took the Grand Prix in his Auto-Union. With an estimate between £15,000 – £20,000, this is not one to be missed.
