Among the 12 lots offered for sale by Art Research Paris on March 21, you will find eight exceptional pieces of furniture, three wall lights and two design project drawings designed by Jean Royère, all preserved with the original invoices. These designs are a beautiful return to the past that will revive your interiors.
The twelve lots presented for sale by Art Research Paris all come from the commission of a Parisian apartment. The young couple placed the order in 1956 and received the furniture a year later. Together, they imagined a playful and innovative universe, integrating emblematic pieces such as the famous Flaque table, Ondulation furniture and Persanes lighting.

The straw marquetry version of the Flaque table, presented by Art Research Paris, is a version that was introduced around 1950. It is tinted brown and highlighted with brown and blond lines. The cylindrical legs and the free-form top are animated with polychrome stars whose magic is revealed when you move according to the light. An original protective glass slab completes the set.

The Ondulation furniture, decorated with blue Sèvres opaline, testifies to the boldness of Royère. A recurring motif in his post-war collections, undulations animate the chair tops, tables and the relief panels of cabinet doors and sideboards. The rectangular table and the support unit presented by Art Research Paris are fervent representatives of the perfect harmony of curves sought by Royère.

The Persanes wall lights are iconic models that are very representative of the work of Jean Royère. Plant inspiration often runs through his work and his bucolic intentions populate his decorations, testifying to his narrative and poetic approach to decoration. The Persanes wall light is similar to a bouquet of flowers, whose eight stems multiply the points of light. The sconces support a set of lampshades that appear to defy gravity while remaining perfectly balanced.

Among the star lots, you will also find three pairs of Écusson chairs, two pairs of which have been covered in a floral patterned fabric and one in an orange velvet. To completely immerse you in the Parisian apartment, there are also two living room layout drawings, one includes wall sconces and the other, Undulation cornices.

Jean Royère, driven by a strong attraction to interior design, but without specific training, opted for the profession of decorator at the age of 29. He started with Pierre Gouffé from 1934 to 1942, then continued as an independent decorator, founding agencies in various countries in the Middle East, including Lebanon, Egypt and Syria. He quickly became the decorator of choice for local sovereigns.
He stands out within the French and international art scene for his innovative approach to design, marked by the introduction of daring concepts such as organic shapes and curved lines, giving his furniture a poetic dimension. His unique style combines pragmatism and freedom, integrating elements of nature into generous and fluid shapes.

These lots put on sale by Art Research Paris, which until now had remained in the couple's family, are witnesses to the rich history of French creation and the legacy of Jean Royère.
Beyond this incredible Royère collection, the sale will offer numerous creations by 20th century decorators: Noll, Quinet, Dominique, Jallot, Ruhlmann, Adnet, Sottsass, Picasso, Douanier Rousseau... and extends to contemporary designers such as Barberini Gunnell, whose work is present in Dior showrooms and at the cinema in the film House of Gucci.
See you on March 21 at the premises of Art Research Paris at rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré for the Design and Architecture sale!
