Diego Rivera (1886-1957) Mexico

The Mexican artist Diego Rivera was influenced both by cubism and renaissance frescos. He painted mural paintings on official buildings for the socialist government in Mexico and was a key actor in the regeneration of modern Mexican art. His socialistic paintings inspired artists like Ben Shahn who in his turn influenced the American art scene and realist art movement in the 1920’s and 1930’s.
Rivera married the artist Frida Kahlo in 1929.
