The humble chair has been an integral part of every home for thousands of years, and has come a long way from the days of hard backs and drab design. The 20th and 21st centuries have seen the creation of some of the most iconic chairs in history, such as the Eames chair, the Egg chair, the Ghost chair and - regreattably - the bean bag. These iconic designs kickstarted the interior design trend of chairs with striking shapes and exquisite upholstery becoming the focal point of a room. One of the most innovatibe British furniture manufacturers, Ercol, produced a number of important chair designs at the height of its success, including the Butterfly chair and the Stacking chair. The Windsor chair remains a true classic, chosen by many for its slender-spindled, slightly-reclined back, splayed legs and sculpted seat.
During two days this week, Wright Auction will hold a sale filled to the brim with objects signed by the greatest creators of the 20th and 21th centuries. Among the international designers you’ll find several Italian names: Marco Zanuso, Carlo Mollino and Osvaldo Borsani to name a few.
