A bronze okimono depicting Hotei smiling with one finger raised, while holding his sack filled with all the treasures of the world. Hotei (布袋), one of the Seven Gods of Fortune (Shichifukujin 七福神), is regarded as the god of happiness, abundance, and good fortune. Weight gr. 1580 Okimono (置物), combining the kanji "oki" (置き, to place) and "mono" (物, object), refers to a decorative object meant for display. Okimono, popular in the Meiji period (1868 - 1912), were finely crafted sculptures made from materials such as ivory, boxwood, wood, and bronze. ---The okimono is in excellent condition.
