The Bloomsbury Group

The Bloomsbury Group were an influential group of thinkers, writers, artists, socialites, and intellectuals who lived in Bloomsbury, London, in the first half of the 20th century. Among their most prominent members were the artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant, the critic Clive Bell, and critic, painter, and art historian Roger Fry. They were influential in bringing the new trends in French painting (for which Fry coined the term ‘Post-Impressionism’) to international attention, and brought the work of Gauguin, Manet, Matisse, and Van Gogh to England for the first time.
