Tapio Wirkkala was a designer and sculptor from Finland. His broad range of work spans from the Finnish markka bank note to metalware, ketchup bottles, ceramics, glass ware and furniture for mass production. Most known is his work for Finnish design company Iittala with the kitchen glass series ”Ultima Thule” and his design of the Finlandia vodka bottle. Tapio Wirkkala also made his own version of the traditional Finnish knife, the puukko, which was produced by Hackman Cutlery.
In the 1950s, Gio Ponti and Piero Fornasetti collaborated on an apartment project in Milan: Casa di Fantasia. Now some of their specially made designs will be auctioned in an exclusive joint sale organized by Phillips and Cambi.
