Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) Finland

Tapio Wirkkala was a designer and sculptor from Finland. His broad range of work spans from the Finnish markka bank note to metalware, ketchup bottles, ceramics, glass ware and furniture for mass production. Most known is his work for Finnish design company Iittala with the kitchen glass series ”Ultima Thule” and his design of the Finlandia vodka bottle. Tapio Wirkkala also made his own version of the traditional Finnish knife, the puukko, which was produced by Hackman Cutlery.
