Sandro Chia (1946-) Italy

Sandro Chia is an Italian painter and sculptor. Chia studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, as well as during his travels in Europe, though he also found inspiration from his travels to India. He helped found the Transavanguardia movement, with its Neoimpressionist orientation. Chia is also considered to be in the vanguard of Italian figurative painting. In the 1980s, he was considered to be a Neo-Expressionist, while his current work has evolved into a kind of expressionist classicism.
