Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997) USA

Roy Lichtenstein was an American painter and sculptor active in Pop Art. Lichtenstein, along with Andy Warhol, was the foremost representative of the Pop Art movement that arose in the 1950s.
Lichtenstein’s motifs are often banal objects from modern, commercial, industrial America. He also drew inspiration from the mass media and created parodies of famous paintings by artists such as Picasso and Piet Mondrian. His paintings are often in large format and painted with acrylics. One of his hallmarks is to reproduce the printed raster in the original so that the printing technique becomes part of the motif. Lichtenstein also drew considerable inspiration from comic book prints; “Whaam!” And “Drowning Girl” are some of his best known works where it is clearly visible that his inspiration comes from comic strips.
