Peter Doig (1959-) Scotland

Peter Doig was born in 1959 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Growing up, he lived in Trinidad and Canada before moving to England as an adult for his education. In 1979, he began his artistic training at the Wimbledon School of Art in London and then continued his studies at Saint Martin’s School of Art and the Chelsea School of Art, where he earned his master’s degree. Soon after earning his master’s, Doig was awarded the prestigious Whitechapel Artist award, which resulted in a solo exhibition at Whitechapel Gallery in 1991.
