Per Kirkeby was born in 1938 in Denmark. He is a painter, graphic artist, sculptor and author. As a young man, Kirkeby studied to become a geologist. Traces of his studies are evident in his paintings, which are often on masonite. He is considered a pop artist and often works with materials such as bronze, stone and oil. Kirkeby and Björn Nörgaard have done happenings and films together. His international breakthrough came in the 1980s. Since then, he has exhibited at numerous museums worldwide and has created several public works, including on Skeppsholmen in Stockholm and on the square in Höganäs. Kirkeby was one of the artists at Den Eksperimenterende Kunstskole (The Experimental Art School), which Poul Gernes founded in 1961.
It’s a mixed crowd of guests invited to this Copenhagen party held at the end of the month. Unique four-poster beds, fabulous glass creations, classic Danish design, and pop art from Per Kirkeby – and all of which are enjoyed with the tones of a saxophone with royal jazz provenance playing in the background.
