Michelangelo (1475-1564) Italy

Michelangelo was an Italian poet, sculptor, architect and artist of the High Renaissance. His talent for sculpture was discovered early, and as a 24-year-old he went to Rome to carry out work for the Pope on St. Peter's Basilica. Michelangelo created work for the Catholic Church for quite a few years, including sculptures and paintings. He created numerous celebrated paintings and sculptures in his time, including the paintings in the Sistine Chapel, the sculpture David, and St. Peter’s Basilica, for which he was one of the head architects.
