Max Book (1953-) Sweden

Max Book is a self-taught visual artist who debuted with his first solo show in 1980 in Stockholm. Book was lauded in the 1980s as one of the leading Postmodern painters of his time, and he has had many exhibitions since then. Book was a professor at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm from 1995 to 2000. His works are often dark, expressive monumental paintings, with the occasional contrasting color, message, or inexplicable encounter. The paintings are created simultaneously, layer by layer, and the backgrounds are often sharp, while images added later are murky and fleeting. Book is also a musician: he is a member of the electronic band ZëBB Academy.
