Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) France

Jean Prouvé was a French architect and designer, and one of the most influential of his time. Prouvé was born into an artistic family, and was influenced by art and crafts at an early age. In the beginning of his career, Prouvé trained as a metal smith and metal furniture maker, in his hometown of Nancy. In 1923, Prouvé opened up a studio to start his own production of metal furniture. Prouvé was not only interested in the design of furniture, but also put great interest and emphasis on the essence of materials, and production.
In the 1930s, Prouvé collaborated with famous furniture designers such as Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret in various metal furniture design projects. Prouvé is known for design classics such as the Standard chair (1934) and Antony chair (1954).
