Hans Wigert (1932-) Sweden

Hans Wigert is a Swedish painter, draftsman, sculptor and graphic artist. He was born in Karlskrona in 1932 and studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1960 to 1965.
Wigert’s art reflects a closeness to nature. His fascination with the landscape of northern Sweden began when he received the Grundsunda grant in the early 1960s. The grant was established by Bror Marklund, who was also Wigert’s teacher at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
Wigert blurs the boundaries between nature and humans in his pictures. His artwork is strong and expressive, and he often uses earth tones in his color palette.
Wigert has had several solo exhibitions, including on Öland and at Liljevalchs in Stockholm. In 2004 the Wigert was awarded the Prince Eugen Medal for artistic achievement.
