Edvard Bergh (1828-1880) Sweden

Edvard Bergh was a Swedish visual artist who studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. Bergh spent three years in Düsseldorf, Switzerland and Italy on a grant provided by the Academy. While in Düsseldorf Bergh studied under the tutelage of Hans Gude, whose dramatic landscapes exerted great influence on Bergh’s painting. Bergh returned to Sweden in 1857 where he founded the landscape school at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. During its heyday, the school had a major impact on Swedish landscape painting.
