David LaChapelle is an American fashion and commercial photographer, as well as an artist and film director. LaChapelle was educated at the North Carolina School of the Arts. In the 1980s he moved to New York where he studied at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts.
LaChapelle’s first professional job was as a 17 year old, when he worked with Andy Warhol and some of the world’s best-known magazines, like Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair.
LaChapelle is known for his somewhat unusually staged images. Although LaChapelle directed music videos and made documentaries, he is currently best known for his photographs of celebrities, who appear in exaggerated scenes bordering on the absurd.
LaChapelle is currently considered to be one of the world's most influential photographers and leaves few unmoved by his extravagant imagery.
