Since the first known photograph was taken by Frenchman Nicéphore Niépce in the 1820s, photography has developed drastically, with the technology used for camera devices improving constantly. The Daguerreotype camera was one of the earliest forms of photographic camera, which produced the image on a silver surface. The film camera then was popularized during the 1880s by the American businessman, George Eastman, whose company Kodak went on to dominate the photography market for most of the 20th century. Various types of cameras went on to be introduced, including the 35mm, the Polaroid, the disposable and the digital camera. The new millennium marked an important transition point in camera technology, with the first camera phone being launched by Japanese electronic company, Sharp. Despite the introduction of the camera phone resulting in a heavy decline in the use of cameras, the popularity of vintage cameras has seen an increase, with many seeking the classic effect of a photograph taken on a film camera.
