Bjarne Melgaard is a Norwegian visual artist who was born in Australia, but grew up in Norway. Melgaard studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Art, Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Melgaard’s art evokes strong reactions, and addresses issues such as homosexuality, sex and violence. His art often blurs the line between fantasy and reality. His paintings are expressionistic and often include text. Melgaard is currently active in New York and is considered to be one of Norway’s most influential and important artists.
