Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo, who painted under the name of Corneille, was a Dutch painter and poet. Corneille studied drawing at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, but was self-taught as a painter, which came to characterize his works. His motifs often reflected sun, women and birds as they were intended to symbolize life, love and longing. In 1948, Corneille joined the Cobra art movement, which included among its members Danish painter Asger Jorn and Belgian author Christian Dotremont. Coneillie’s works have been forged on a number of occasions. It is not always easy for specialists and experts to authenticate his work since the quality varied greatly during different parts of his life.
