Barnett Newman (1905-1970) USA

Barnett Newman, born in New York was an abstract expressionist painter and one of the first great painters to perform colour field paintings. His paintings usually feature a vertical line across the canvas. Besides painting Newman organized exhibitions and wrote catalogue forewords and in the late 1940’s he became a member of the Uptown Group.
