Ad Reinhardt was a painter, art critic and theoretician. He was a member of American Abstract Artists (AAA) and was later on associated with abstract expressionism.
In the footsteps of Mondrian, Reinhardt developed a plan geometric and non-figurative style - a style that would vary and change over time. Beginning with monochrome painting and rectangular shapes moving on to almost completely black paintings, only suggesting the modest gradation in color tone, Reinhardt would become a great influence to minimalism and conceptual art.
