Zoom binoculars - 1850-1900 - Germany - Jacob Sachs-Hof Optiker

A particularly well-preserved theater glass from the German optician Jacob Sachs, Cologne and Berlin, is presented. Jacob Sachs (often written Jakob Sachs) was a well-known German court optician who produced high-quality optical instruments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was also appointed as a court optician! The addition “court optician” (or Hof-Optiker) was a predicate title. It meant that Jacob Sachs was an official supplier to a princely, ducal, or royal house (often Prussian or a regional Rhineland noble family). That title stood for the highest craftsmanship, excellent glass quality, and fine mechanics, which is why his pieces remain popular with collectors to this day. Antique pieces from his workshop are today popular collectibles in the category Vintage Optics and Handicrafts.
