Willi Glaeser – Paper Collector – TMP – Iconische...

Willi Glaeser – Paper Collector – TMP – Iconic Swiss design classic (1989) An internationally recognized design classic where functionality, simplicity, and geometric perfection come together! This special Paper Collector was designed in 1989 by the Swiss designer Willi Glaeser for Thomas Merlo & Partner (TMP). What at first glance appears to be a minimalist literature holder proves to be a deliberate specimen of industrial design. The construction consists of bent, chrome-plated steel rod that together form a striking open, cube-shaped line pattern. The design is as simple as it is ingenious: magazines, newspapers, and old paper can be neatly stacked, while the open construction makes it easy to bundle the gathered stack with rope for recycling. An awarded design idea The Paper Collector grew into an internationally successful Swiss design classic, with more than a million units sold worldwide. In 2006 the design was included in the renowned three-volume publication Phaidon Design Classics, which highlights 999 influential design objects from the past two centuries. The Paper Collector is listed here as number 884. The design was also included in the Design Store of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. A fine example of how a simple everyday object can grow into an internationally appreciated design object. Timeless and versatile With its glossy chrome finish and sculptural form, this Paper Collector fits effortlessly into modern, industrial, or vintage interiors. Beautiful beside an armchair or sofa, but also a stylish focal point in an office, library, or study. Even without contents, this literature holder is a decorative object in its own right.
