"Charlemagne's Stack" (nested cup-weight set) antique, dating to the 19th century (or earlier). The object is entirely made of solid brass/bronze turned on a lathe. The set is complete, consisting of the external case with hinged lid and its original oscillating-bar latch, 4 inner cups nested one inside the other, and the original central disc stamped with the number "2". On the lid is clearly engraved the number "16", indicating the total value of 16 ounces (equivalent to 1 ancient pound). The object strictly adheres to the binary progression typical of these instruments (the outer container weighs exactly the sum of all the inner weights).
