A large circular creamware bowl featuring the Clovelly pattern designed by British artist Rex Whistler for Wedgwood. This deep bowl is constructed from fine cream-colored earthenware, often referred to as Queen's Ware. The decoration consists of black transfer-printed vignettes depicting the historic fishing village of Clovelly in Devon, England. The interior center is decorated with a scene of a steep, cobbled street labeled CLOVELLY. The exterior body features several romanticized scenes including harbor views, nautical equipment, and floral sprigs. The underside of the bowl is marked with a black printed stamp that reads Rex Whistler Design. WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND with the letter P below. Additional incised marks on the base include MADE IN ENGLAND, WEDGWOOD. The base also retains a silver circular sticker for the RUBIN NOLLE COLLECTION and a small rectangular inventory tag.
