We present an extraordinary decorative Chinese rug-tapestry, 100% handmade in pure silk, conceived as an authentic textile art piece and wall decoration. The composition is based on an abstract expressionist painting by Wassily Kandinsky from the 1920s–1930s, suggesting a landscape with a boat and different figures represented in an abstract manner. The work blends geometric and expressive shapes in muted tones and black, on a spectacular background of yellow and gold hues that recall the glow of a sunrise or sunset. This piece was made by master Chinese artisans approximately between 1970 and 1980, following traditional manual craftsmanship techniques. The use of pure silk gives the surface a characteristic shine and luminosity, making the tones and nuances vary depending on the direction of the light. The rug was specially designed as an artistic tapestry for wall decoration. At its top it features three woven loops, designed to thread a rod and allow hanging the piece. The loops can also be folded inward for a more discreet and practically invisible installation. The piece also features the signature “Kandinsky” woven into the rug itself, visible in one of its corners. Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist, active in Germany during the late Belle Époque and the interwar period. He is regarded as one of the great pioneers of abstraction in Western art. He taught at the renowned Bauhaus school of art and design from 1922 until its closure by the Nazis in 1933. He later moved to France, where he remained for the rest of his life. He acquired French nationality in 1939 and produced some of the most notable works of his career there. Measurements: 92 × 70 cm. Origin: China. Era: approximately 1970–1980. Material: pure silk. Craftsmanship: 100% handmade. Design: after Wassily Kandinsky. Use: rug-tapestry / wall decoration. Condition: excellent, clean and perfectly preserved. A highly decorative and uncommon artistic piece, in magnificent condition, ideal for collectors as well as interior decoration and lovers of abstract art. Note: the inscription “Kandinsky” refers to the artist and to the design on which the piece is inspired; it does not imply that the rug was personally created by Wassily Kandinsky. Each of our rugs is delivered with a certificate of authenticity, indicating its measurements, approximate age, materials, and origin.
