The Robber Kitten (Walt Disney, 1935) Ambrose Production Drawing "Say, pal, you pull any big jobs lately?" "Huh? Oh, oh sure, why uh...just this morning I held up a stagecoach." "Yeah? Tell me about it." Theatrically released over 90 years ago on 4/13/1935, this animated short sees Ambrose the kitten rename himself Butch and run away from home with plans to become a robber all to avoid taking a bath. His first intended victim is a real robber: Dirty Bill, a dog. Dirty Bill asks Ambrose if he's pulled off any big jobs, and he tells of the stagecoach robbery we saw him enacting at the beginning of the movie leaving out one crucial detail - it was all play pretend. Bill greedily demands to see the loot, but Ambrose only shows him a bag of cookies and Bill won't accept that answer, so he comes after Ambrose, scaring him right into the bath he earlier avoided. This Silly Symphony animated short was directed by David Hand (1900 - 1986), whose most notable works include "Meet the Soundtrack" segment from the 1940's classic animated feature film Fantasia, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), and Bambi. Incredibly detailed image, rendered in graphite with colored pencil on 2-peg hole animation paper. The overall condition is Very Good with mild age-related toning, and light handling wear and edge wear.
