Series of five volumes, volumes I to V, of the Siècles of Louis XIV and Louis XV, by Voltaire. Stereotype edition following Firmin Didot’s process, printed in Paris by Pierre Didot the Elder and Firmin Didot, in the year XI (1803). The work traces the political, cultural and intellectual history of the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV, with historical developments and Voltaire’s reflections on the arts, letters and events of his era. Uniform bindings in brown half-leather, spines adorned with gilt fillets, title and volume labels, boards of blue-green paper. Dimensions of one volume measured from the photograph: about 13.5 × 9 cm. Used condition with markings: rubbing and epidermization, leather losses, spines and corners heavily worn, hinges weakened and small losses visible. Boards stained and soiled; papers browned with foxing, spots and signs of use. The defects are visible in the photographs. Exact pagination to be verified volume by volume.
