VOLTA - NO RESERVE "Under a Watching Moon"

The whole painting is held in a single shade of green: green the evening sky, green the still water, almost black the foliage that occupies the right half and closes like a wall. The moon is already high, small and full, and its light stretches across the pond in a pale stripe among the water lilies. Within this quiet, the balloons enter — red, blue, yellow, purple — painted with dense, full strokes, without shading — and they rise in dozens from the grass toward the top, positioning themselves in front of the trees as if depth did not concern them. A heron crosses the foreground almost covered by that color, with the calm of someone who has seen nothing. The evening remains the same, silent and closed; it is the painting that has let something in that did not belong to it. Signed and dated 2026 at the bottom right Image size: 65 x 95 cm Total canvas size: 75 x 105 cm The work is sold without a frame; it will be rolled and shipped in a cardboard tube. The certificate of authenticity is issued exclusively on request, in digital format. Volta’s search moves along the path of a return — not nostalgic, but active. The great tradition of European painting is the starting point: the period each work evokes, from time to time. But the gesture with which this heritage is traversed is unequivocally contemporary. Color does not illuminate, it breathes. The brushstroke does not describe, it vibrates. What remains of the past is the deep structure — a certain idea of body, of space, of light — while the surface is entirely present, entirely alive. Volta does not quote, it restitutes: his compositions seem to emerge from a shared cultural memory, brought to light with different eyes.
