VIRGIL. *Bucolica*, *Georgica*, and *Aeneid*. Birmingham, Johannis Baskerville, 1757. In-4, red morocco, straight lace edging decorated with small ironwork, coat of arms in the center, decorated spine, green title label, inner roulette, gilt edges (Dymott fecet). First edition of Baskerville’s first volume. (Brunet, vol. V, col. 1292–1293.) A copy in morocco leather with lace edging, bearing the coat of arms of Antoine-Nicolas Gavinet (1724–1795), a master apothecary and chemist from Lyon and member of the Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts of Lyon: his engraved bookplate, formerly pasted into the lining, is partially torn off. The binding is signed by Richard Dymott, a bookbinder active in London from the 1760s to the 1780s. The four leaves of the list of subscribers at the beginning are missing. A few light foxing spots; the upper hinge is split vertically over the height of two panels.
