Vintage Ring with Untreated Burma Ruby & Diamonds in White Gold, c. 1970

Many of today's popular ring shapes first flourished in the years around 1900. The Toi-et-Moi ring, the Duchesse ring, the Marquise ring and finally the Entourage ring are among these popular classics. The entourage ring in particular, a ring with one large coloured stone in the middle, framed by sparkling diamonds, has never gone out of fashion. This ring is an example of this type from around 1970. 16 diamonds frame a raspberry-red ruby from Burma. Weighing around 1.40 ct, the stone has an intense pink-red colour and is accompanied by two certificates confirming its origin from Burma. It has not been heated or treated in any other way: Its beauty is entirely a precious gift of nature. Small crystal inclusions and a velvety shimmer of the finest rutile needles inside it further testify to its natural origin. The diamonds are alternately brilliant cut and marquise cut. This gives the ruby the appearance of a flower set in a square of light. The fact that the diamonds are set at different levels in the ring further enhances this impression. The diamonds and the ruby are held in place by delicate prongs made of white gold, which is completely understated in terms of colour. The gallery is constructed like a basket, allowing plenty of light to reach the gemstones and enhance their sparkle. The ring band appears to consist of three parts that fan out at the ring shoulders. This makes the ring appear light despite its high-carat setting.
