Vintage Ring with Moonstone and Pink Sapphires, likely South Asian

A summer night in the moonlight seems to have been the inspiration for this unusual ring. At its center, a large oval moonstone glows in a delicate, mysterious blue. It is surrounded by a wreath of bright pink sapphires, whose warm colour creates a charming contrast to the cool shimmer of the center stone. The moonstone is cut as a cabochon. This cut beautifully highlights its characteristic play of colours. Depending on the angle of the light, a bluish-white shimmer seems to wander across the stone, just as if the moonlight that gives it its name were captured within it. This optical phenomenon is known as adularescence and is caused by the unique internal structure of the feldspar. This high-quality moonstone originates from India or Sri Lanka, two classic sources of this gemstone. The ring itself was likely crafted in South Asia during the second half of the 20th century. A skilled artisan surrounded the large center stone with an entourage of faceted pink sapphires and set the oval arrangement in a delicately and airily crafted silver setting. A simple 9-karat gold ring band completes the piece of jewellery. The ring’s appeal lies above all in its exceptionally beautiful interplay of colors: the cool, almost mysterious blue of the moonstone meets the vibrant pink of the sapphires. An enchanting piece of jewellery crafted from luxurious materials, where the unique effect of the gemstones takes center stage.
