Vintage Ring With Blue Zircon Based on a Historical Model, Circa 1980

Zircon is a precious and natural gemstone that is hardly known in Germany and is mainly found in Cambodia. It has nothing in common with the cheap diamond substitute "zirconia", which is created in a laboratory and is basically worthless. Genuine zircons are rare gemstones that can occur in many beautiful colours, with the blue specimens in particular being sought-after treasures due to their unusually radiant blue tone. These medium blue zircons are called "starlite" and are created by firing natural raw zircons - which initially look almost like simple coal - at temperatures of around 800 degrees Celsius for two to two and a half hours. This process is a science in itself, as the gemstones are packed in clay and then carefully heated in glowing coal. With a little luck, the unmistakable blue is created, which is one of the most sought-after colours in the spectrum of zircons and is valued the highest. This ring from the middle of the last century presents us with one of these unusual gemstones. The white gold ring sets a large, blue precious zircon in its center and holds the stone with eight secure prongs. The shoulders, which lead to the plain ring band, are adorned with a total of six white zirconia stones. The rare blue of the center stone thus creates a harmonious composition with the shimmer of the small set zirconia and the bright shine of the white gold. A beautiful piece of jewelry that also makes a wonderful engagement ring!
