An impressive and finely detailed mid-20th-century Indonesian/Balinese polychrome wooden sculpture depicting a seated Buddha in meditative contemplation. This substantial 39 cm tall figure is entirely hand-carved from a single block of wood and features traditional, vibrant ceremonial styling. The Buddha is draped in flowing, vivid red lacquered robes accented by delicate gold leaf gilding along the trim and neckline, providing a beautiful contrast to the serene, light-toned facial expression and dark, coiled hair. The hands are held in a variation of the Dhyana Mudra (meditation gesture) or local folk-art devotional hand posture, resting above a deeply carved, layered blue lotus base. A wonderful decorative statement piece showcasing the rich folk art and spiritual woodcarving traditions of Southeast Asia. • Origin: Indonesia (likely Bali) • Object Type: Statuette / Figurine • Material: Polychrome lacquered wood, gilding • Period: Mid-to-late 20th century • Dimensions: Height: 39 cm | Width: ~24 cm (approximate based on height) | Depth: ~15 cm • Weight: [Insert weight here, e.g., 2.3 kg] Condition: In very good vintage condition, especially considering its age and organic material. The polychrome paint and gilded elements remain remarkably vibrant and stable with minimal flaking. The wood shows natural aging characteristics, minor surface wear, and faint drying lines consistent with age, none of which compromise the structural integrity or aesthetic appeal of the piece.
