All auctions / Asian Art / Vase - Porcelain - China - Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)

A large baluster-form Chinese porcelain vase, 42,5 cm high, hand-painted in cobalt blue underglaze on a soft celadon-toned ground. The central body depicts a classic garden scene with scholars and young attendants beside a balustrade, surrounded by stylized ruyi cloud scrolls. The pale celadon hue of the glaze gives the blue decoration a soft, atmospheric quality. The neck features small relief-molded stylized ruyi-scepter handles. The unglazed footring shows natural iron-oxide firing discoloration (kiln "fire mark"). Condition Report Two small flea bites to the rim of the mouth (see photos), and one small chip to the underside of the footring, not visible when displayed. Otherwise sound, with no cracks or repairs noted.
