A bronze vase of archaic form, characterized by a greenish patina with tones that evoke the appearance of marble. The rounded body rises to a flared neck and is flanked by two zoomorphic side handles. The surface is enriched with relief decorative bands featuring ornamental motifs inspired by archaic ritual bronzes. Signature in relief under the base. With the Haitōrei Edict of 1876, which forbade the samurai from wearing swords, the metal masters of the Edo period transformed their craft. They turned to creating decorative art bronzes, refining alloys and patinas of extraordinary beauty. The vase is in good condition. There are slight signs of wear consistent with the period.
