Val Saint Lambert - Cake stand - ART DECO - 1930s - LUXVAL - Crystal

Val Saint Lambert Luxval Art Deco Cake Stand – Belgium, c. 1930s An elegant Art Deco cake stand by Val Saint Lambert, part of the celebrated Luxval collection. This model appears in the Val Saint Lambert catalogue of the 1930s within the “Service à larges côtes plates A”, characterized by its broad radiating ribs and softly scalloped edge. The design perfectly reflects the spirit of the Luxval line, combining modern Art Deco aesthetics with refined yet accessible elegance. The wide fluted plate rests on a short pedestal base featuring a subtle sunburst motif underneath, creating a beautiful play of light through the pressed glass. Its clean, understated design feels remarkably contemporary and makes it particularly suitable for a modern interior and table setting — ideal for serving cakes, pastries, sweets, fruit or savoury appetizers, as well as for use as a decorative centerpiece. The piece bears the Val Saint Lambert mark. Together with its documented appearance in the original period catalogue, this provides clear confirmation of its authenticity and attribution. The cake stand is in very good vintage condition, with no chips. There are some minor surface traces of use and light scratches, entirely consistent with an object approaching 100 years of age. Minor production marks characteristic of pressed glass from this period may also be present. The photograph from the original Val Saint Lambert catalogue is included for reference and documentation. A refined and highly usable example of Belgian Art Deco glass design, combining the distinctive character of Luxval with a timeless simplicity that remains perfectly at home in contemporary interiors. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Some bubbles and small imperfections are normal in items made of pressed glass and crystal Will be well packaged, protected and insured
