Val Saint Lambert

Val Saint-Lambert – Luxval – Helvète Model – Art Deco pink amethyst glass vase – Belgium – circa 1935 Stunning Art Deco vase from the famous Belgian crystal works Val Saint-Lambert, part of the Luxval collection, model “Helvète,” dating from the 1930s. This vase stands out for its elegant flared silhouette, its remarkable geometric relief decoration, and its magnificent pink amethyst coloration, with raspberry and purple nuances. It is a fine example of Belgian decorative glassware from the interwar period, combining modern forms, aesthetic research, and glassmaking know-how. Made in thick molded-pressed glass, this vase features a harmonious silhouette evoking a largely opened floral corolla. Its lower part is adorned with a regular sequence of elongated petal-shaped motifs, separated by deep transparent vertical veins. These reliefs rise from the polygonal base and extend progressively toward the wide flared neck, creating an elegant upward movement. The decoration is characterized by: * A superb amethyst pink coloration with raspberry nuances. * An alternating pattern of colored panels and transparent veins. * Deep geometric reliefs evoking stylized petals. * A wide flared neck finished with a thick, rounded edge. * A polygonal base ensuring excellent stability. * Remarkable plays of transparency and light. Under certain lighting and viewing angles, the color reveals different nuances ranging from rich pink to deep purple. The glass thickness, the quality of the molding, and the richness of optical effects confer on this piece a remarkably decorative presence. The vase bears, under its base, the molded signature: « VAL ST LAMBERT BELGIUM » This mark attests to its origin from the renowned Belgian crystal works Val Saint-Lambert. The signature is visible in the detailed photographs accompanying the listing. Founded in 1826 in Seraing, near Liège, the Val Saint-Lambert crystal works ranks among Belgium’s most prestigious glassmaking houses. Internationally recognized for its crystal creations, it also developed a significant production of decorative glassware to meet evolving tastes and new artistic trends. In the 1930s, the factory developed the Luxval collection, a range of molded-pressed glass characterized by modern shapes, geometric decorations, and a wide variety of colors. This collection fully aligns with the Art Deco movement, which favors structured lines, symmetrical compositions, and stylization of natural motifs. The designers Charles Graffart and René Delvenne notably contributed to the artistic development of this production. Their creations contributed to the aesthetic renewal of Belgian glassware during the interwar period. The model “Helvète” belongs to this characteristic production of the Art Deco period. Today, Luxval productions appeal to both collectors of Belgian glassware and enthusiasts of 20th-century design and decorative arts. DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT * Height: 16 cm * Upper diameter: 15.5 cm * Base diameter: 7.8 cm * Weight: 1,165 grams Good overall condition considering its age. The vase shows some normal signs of use and age, notably light surface marks and some abrasion traces. To note: a tiny irregularity located on one of the transparent vertical veins, possibly a small burr or a very light superficial chip. This irregularity is localized, discreet, and does not affect the object’s stability or overall aesthetics. It is intentionally shown in two close-up photographs to allow buyers to precisely assess its nature and extent. The amethyst pink coloration retains a beautiful intensity and the decorative reliefs remain perfectly legible. No other major damage was identified upon visual inspection. The numerous and detailed photographs are part of the description and help appreciate the vase’s real condition. This vase constitutes a fine example of Val Saint-Lambert’s decorative production during the Art Deco period. Its elegant flared silhouette, its geometric relief decoration, and its remarkable amethyst pink coloration make it a particularly attractive piece.
