In the history of Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewellery, Fahrner jewellery from Pforzheim occupies a special place. Theodor Fahrner and later his successor Gustav Braendle knew how to make artistically convincing designs and high-quality workmanship the hallmark of their brooches, necklaces, bracelets and earrings like hardly any other modern jewellery manufacturer. Theodor Fahrner made artists' jewellery affordable by combining modern forms with democratic materials. He did not create individual pieces for a small elite like Lalique or Cartier, but the designs were produced in series in silver, decorated with enamel, marcasites and occasionally precious stones. Jewellers and department stores all over Europe sold the jewellery, which Fahrner advertised extensively in journals and magazines: "Fahrner jewellery - designed by the best artists" allowed every woman to participate in a modern life full of beauty. Travellers with large sample cases presented the novelties developed in Pforzheim to the jewellers on site. One such sample case full of unworn Fahrner jewellery has lain untouched in an attic for more than 40 years until we were able to purchase it. It contained samples of almost all series from about 1919 until the company's dissolution in 1979, most of them with a model number or the "Original Fahrner" seal. This necklace comes from this collection, is therefore unworn and in best condition. An original Fahrner label with the inscription "Original Fahrner / Since 1850" together with the company logo "TF" can be found on the piece of jewellery along with the old item number and the original Fahrner seal. The centerpiece of the necklace features five openwork links with a fine trim in silver set with marcasites, as the necklace is partially gilded and partially left silver-transparent. Beautiful pod-shaped links lead over to the spring clasp. The jewel shows the typical design language of the 1950s and the large links are reminiscent of large feathers, lightly and carefree moved by the wind. The type of gilding used here is called "antique gilding" by Fahrner. It has a faint golden tone by which Fahrner jewellery can be easily identified.
