Gold coins have always been used as pieces of jewellery. In Germany, it was above all the gold mark, minted from 1871 onwards, whose decorative value gave it a second life. This unusual ring, however, presents two coins of the world's leading currency today, the US dollar. These are two coins with a face value of five dollars (the so-called half eagle), minted from gold. Although there had been plans to issue a dollar coin made of gold since the 1830s, it was only the precious metal mined during the Californian gold rush from 1848 onwards that made these efforts feasible. The other coin shows us the opposite side with the eagle and the coat of arms of the United States. The coins were made of gold with a fineness of 900/000 and are held in 18-karat gold mounts. A wreath of 45 octagonal diamonds frames each of the obverse sides. The ring is in very good condition and is an unusual piece of jewellery for the hand, with coins made from the gold of the Californian mountains.
