Unusual Gold Brooch with Calibrated Rubies & Diamonds, c. 1985

This brooch tells the story of love. Its gently curved shape is reminiscent of the symbol of infinity, a ribbon without beginning or end. A fiery red flows into sparkling white, rubies and diamonds combine to create a harmonious interplay of colour and light. In the center, where the lines intersect, a larger diamond shines. In the language of gemstones, the ruby stands for passion, the diamond for eternity. Together they tell of a love that should never fade. Crafted from high-carat gold, the diamonds with a total weight of around 0.54 carats unfold their bright fire in rhodium-plated settings, clear and pure in their colour. The natural rubies, precisely cut into small rectangles, shine in an intense red that appears even warmer in contrast to the cool reflections of the diamonds. This delicate and carefully crafted brooch draws on designs from c. 1910, but was made in the 1980s and captures the idea of eternal love in a play of gold, light and colour. We discovered it here in Berlin.
