Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste-Nicoya; and Peru, Chancay. Three Pre-Columbian pottery vessels, comprising a pair of Costa Rican tripod rattle bowls and a flared kero type cup from Peru. The larger bowl stands on fish-form legs, two still containing pellet rattles, no longer functional, with twisted loop handles at the shoulder. The smaller bowl rests on slit hollow legs below a band of rope-twist decoration at the rim. Rattle tripods of this type are characteristic of the Atlantic Watershed and Guanacaste regions and served in both domestic and funerary contexts. The cup is slipped in creamy beige and painted with motifs in dark brown and deep red across four quadrants, including a dotted field and abstract animal figures, possibly fish or birds.
