Turkaman rugs are the umbrella term for the knotting of Turkmen tribes, whose identifying feature is the rows of Gül medallions on a deep red ground. The name derives from the people of the Turkmen, who for centuries lived as cattle breeders on the steppes and the outskirts of deserts in Central Asia. Knots are tied wool-on-wool with 100,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter, today predominantly in northern Afghanistan, where Turkmen families, especially the Ersari, continue the old pattern language. Within nomad rugs they form a closed, strictly geometric family. Size: 193 x 116 cm Color: red - black - beige Handmade Rug from Turkmenista
