Turkmen rugs are the umbrella term for the weavings of the Turkmen tribes, whose identifying feature is the row-by-row arranged Gul medallions on a deep red ground. The name derives from the Turkmen people, who for centuries lived as pastoralists in the steppes and desert fringe regions of Central Asia. Wool-on-wool is woven with 100,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter, today predominantly in northern Afghanistan, where Turkmen families, especially Ersari, continue the old pattern language. Within nomadic rugs they form a cohesive, strictly geometric family. Size: 136 x 107 cm Color: red - black Handmade Rug from Turkmenista
