Turkoman rugs are the umbrella term for the knotted weavings of the Turkmen tribes, whose identifying feature is the rows of gul medallions on a deep red ground. The name derives from the Turkmen people, who for centuries lived as herders on the steppes and on the edge of the deserts of Central Asia. Wool is knotted wool-on-wool with 100,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter, today predominantly in northern Afghanistan, where Turkmen families, especially the Ersari, continue the old pattern language. Within the nomad rugs, they form a cohesive, strictly geometric family. Size: 130 x 102 cm Color: red - black Handmade Rug from Turkmenista
