Turkaman carpets are the umbrella term for the weavings of the Turkmen tribes, whose identifying feature is the row-by-row arrangement of Gül medallions on a deep red background. The name derives from the Turkmen people, who for centuries lived as cattle herders in the steppes and desert fringe areas of Central Asia. Wool is knotted to wool at 100,000 to 250,000 knots per square meter, today predominantly in northern Afghanistan, where Turkmen families, especially the Ersari, continue the old pattern language. Within nomad carpets they form a cohesive, strictly geometric family. Size: 121 x 977 cm Color: red-beige Handmade Rug from Turkmenista
